Technology Notes in the Wee Hours of the Night

It’s another Sunday evening, well actually its Monday morning right now. For those that know me you are probably thinking, well, that’s not so strange.

On my part I have to say that personally I am thinking this is quite strange. I still got hours to burn and I am not writing a single line of code at this time. Strange.

I just couldn’t resist writing another article to feel into my blog and I really didn’t have anything to write about and so what I decided to so tonight is just give a little update into what I have been up to the last couple of weeks.

I have been really busy for one since getting back home from my Thanks giving trip. I think it was a nasty trip as far as I am concerned. I went to visit my brother up in Seattle and ended up battling the common cold ( I can assure you there was nothing common about this one) for the next week or so after only two day of trying to settle down.

Anyway I got back home and just took my time getting up to speed with my health and while I was home I got myself diving deep into getting some code done. I have been involved in working or rather planning and laying down the design for a few applications I plan to build next next year. I have a little something I am working for that will be running on the Nokia platforms, I got one web based application and two desktop applications I must get done in the next couple of months.

Then it comes down to the stuff I am trying to get done for my website as clearly it is still way behind where I want it to be. So, in line with that I have been pretty active this week preparing some application I wanted to post up under the downloads link. At this time its basically three calculators and Notepad clone that I have kicked off as I continue to polish some other applications and make them available for Free downloads. Yes; I said it. FREE DOWNLOADS.

These were basicall some calculator I built a some years ago. I remember as I fit were just a day ago when I noticed that my computer calculator had gone AWOL and I really needed it so, I figured I fire up my Visual Studio IDE and make another one and that was the birth of NumCrunch. I may have been months later I decided to expand the same calculator when I got involved in developing some algorithms that needed a little bit more math than any normal student could stomach. So again I fired up my development tool and started working on this second version. This was probably back in 2005 and I called it NumCrunchX05.

So again a couple of years back I was reading a college algebra book just polishing on some of my math and I came across this page that supplied a few options on Metric and Imperial Conversions. So again I fired up my programming environment and developed the conversion calculator.

Preferring to do all these tools and utilities in C++ I really enjoyed relaxing my mind as I worked on them. In the days after that I was able to do stuff like the Notepad clone. And no; I did not loose the original notepad. Again this was a text editor I decided to work on out of sheer boredom. Well, am sorry; I couldn’t sleep that day so go ahead, sue me.

Well okay back to last week. I was quite involved at home working on some interesting stuff to keep the slackers entertained while pretending to work in their respective offices. So far I have put up an online version of the conversion calculator, a multiplication table which is not just produced dynamically. It has an option to visualize the results in several color patterns.
I also found time to add a little tool that can test your reflexes, better still, compare your result and see how you fare with other people out there.

Okay in addition to the Tic Tac Toe game that has been sitting on the home page I have also taken the initiative to start working on other little classic games. Coming soon or rather coming next is Towers of Nairobi and a form of Tetris that I am yet to name.

I think the most significant thing to note about these games is note really their complexity but the fact that is I decided to attempt to get them done using just Javascript, HTML and CSS. I have other games I will be putting in up in the weeks and months to come but these may not be as easy to get in in the technologies I mentioned above but I hope to figure out a loophole. Once I develop a way around the limitations I am yet to face as well as those already faced then we will see what happens.

Last but not list I have lots of little experiments I am working on and I will definitely be posting my findings and progress on them right here.

I guess I have done enough to encourage the urge of sleep to knock on my door so I think I will retire to bed now.

Great insight Colin. Its nasty how we with great perception of color tend to take things for granted. I will be reworking the blog in a month or so and I will definitely be factoring accessibility features into the blog. I will be doing the same for main website. Thanks alo again for the advice

  3. Food for thought, (at least the bits I could make out easily). I am afflicted with color blindness (tritanopia to be exact). I use Opera browser (unsure if that changes anything), and a great deal of this web page is tricky for me to make out. I know it is my problem to deal with, in truth, nevertheless it would be nice if you could consider color blind visitors while carrying out the next webpage re-working.
