Nokia Announces Release of QT 4.6

Version 4.6 of Nokias cross-platform Application and UI Framework has been released officially. This version is quite a leap from 4.5. It includes support for Symbian platform which is by the way a first and in line with Nokias intention to bring some harmony into their development platforms.

Also added is support for Windows 7 & Mac OS 10.6 popularly known as Snow leopard. The upcoming Maemo 6 from Nokia its self has not been left out too. Community support is available for realtime Operating Systems QNX and VxWorks.

For those that cant get enough of multi-touch and gesture based applications, QT 4.6 adds support for it via input methods such as flicking and kinetic scrolling. Other than the new features there are a few performance improvement such as the optimized re-written Qt Graphics view rendering algorithm, new Open GL engine, Webkit, Open VG 2D vector support and DirectFB support.

There is a new animation Framework with new graphics effects such as opacity, drop shadows, glow, filtering etc. The IDE QT Creator has also been beefed up to version 1.3 to support the features mentioned above.
With all this Nokia too has released a technology preview of this API for developers.
