It’s a great day the Sun is blaring as loud as jet engine, it drizzled this morning and now we up to about 29° C ( 84° F) mostly clear skies, the wind is blowing at 3Km/h East North East, humidity is at 89%, yep! A great day I would say.

Not to say it’s the cause of my delusions although I wouldn’t describe it as that in the first place. Anyway about two weeks ago I opened yahoo using internet explorer and was pleased… not pleased as in happy but please as in “it’s a new thing, yeii the Internet is on the move… yada yada!”, well I was pleased to see that yahoo had changed the homepage and was giving us something new.

New Yahoo Home Page

Nothing new about that in general, but it really baffled me from that point to learn that later on that day they had reverted to the old design just a couple of hours later.

Or had they?

Events unfolded in this manner. About an hour after sampling the design I happened to be in an associate’s office. Let’s call him George. I was chilling out in George’s office only to find myself staring the old yahoo design right in the face.
There was cause for great concern on my side as I knew I was looking at something that shouldn’t be there in the first place. Kinda makes you feel like a scene off the Twilight Zone.

So off like a screaming gazelle, went my brain trying to process logic, digging out through the archives somewhere upstairs and I was convinced I was right in the first place. By now I had thrown all reason out the window and found myself in a heated argument with George on how he should get rid of his computer and get something more decent.

I was shoving my views down his throat… views of larger than bite sized chunks just to get the guy to gazette my words as law.

See, that’s the problem with being a Software Developer as you figure that you know everything about every framework and reasons why they work and reasons why they don’t.  So I left his office feeling like Alexander the Great. Having came, saw and conquered… I was feeling good.

Now let’s fast forward to this morning. As usual I left home bright and chirpy… I had it good and at that moment, I had it good. Last night my soccer team (Liverpool) thrashed Real Madrid and felt no remorse about the whole thing. Personal Note! They deserved the whipping and we would do it again and again if presented with a similar opportunity.

So anyway all that was going on, my morning prayer was done and together with all the other little stuff that goes on every morning as people get up to work for whatever is their goal.

So I got to the office and for the first time since two weeks back, I was opening the Yahoo page on my laptop. Most of the time I access yahoo via my handheld. This was just one of those few exceptions.

Older Yahoo Home Page

You should have seen the look on my face when the guys a Yahoo tossed the older pages right at me and I was left gaping with my mouth wide open. At that precise moment I had to come up with a quick fix as to why my “state-of-the-art” laptop cannot render the newer pages and as quick as a flash I had determined Yahoo had screwed up somewhere and reverted to the older home page.

Or did they?

It doesn’t matter whether or not they did it as far as I was concerned they did it. Am afraid to say that I was totally wrong coz the guys at Yahoo dropped the Big One on me.

Upon the timely downloads of the latest Windows Updates it was time to reboot. While my laptop was taking a couple of minutes off duty, I promptly switched over to my workstation and fired up the www.yahoo.com homepage.

Alas!!! And I say Alas again!!! It was the new Yahoo Homepage smiling at me once again and I figured that this is enough mind games for one morning. Apparently I got to figure that I was now using Internet Explorer 7.

FireFox I launched Firefox 3.07 once again and found that am back to the older Yahoo page and that’s when the reality of this world had come back to me. It was obvious that different themes were being used for the different browsers and I got me thinking… it’s been a while since I last used Internet Explorer. Let along access Yahoo on a full size browser. Note to self. Give IE some quality time once in a while.

This episode took me down memory lane thinking about some stuff that I haven’t done or places I haven’t been to in a while. So in continuation to this post I will be writing about that in a couple of days to come. Internet Explorer For now, am gonna take a few hours break and just surf the Internet with Internet Explorer. See you later.

Thanks for posting this article. I’m definitely frustrated with struggling to search out relevant and brilliant commentary on this subject. Everybody now goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either: everyone else in the planet is wrong, or two that everyone but them does not really understand the situation. Many thanks for your succinct, applicable insight.
