CV Management System 2.0 ploughs through.

The resume collecting and sorting application has been on Beta testing for the past few weeks now. I have gone through to hell and back I must confess.

In the midst of battling with fever and flu while at the same time trying to keep up with a deadline that doesn’t seem to want to be caught up with. Anyway after laying this beast in the cage I am happy to say progress has been swift.

To start with, the system could not initially run on the server it was built to run on. After sleepless nights and liters of strong black Kenyan coffee I finally figured out that the server had a bug in it. Probably caused by some faulty installing. Anyway, after re-installing the server the whole system began to work like a well-oiled generator.

Like I said, we are all proud of the way that this application is turning out to be. Despite the fact that the first version had a hundred and one bugs, the second and current version has proven to be a sure thing. The first version had a few bugs that caused some data to be lost as it was being inserted. The type checking was rather weak (Silly me) and it was not checking the users that where inserting data into the database properly.

So generally I worked on that and sorted the whole issue out. Secondly I worked on a feature that caused the system to drop all the row data once someone tried to edit an existing record. Now I am not even going to try and go there. I should have seen that one coming. However this is also sorted out.

So basically there were so many other things wrong with version 1.0 that I even wonder how it got to the client. That’s a nightmare I would not like to go through again.

So the story with version 2.0 Beta is that it is a miracle in the making, thank God. Upon hacking the beast, I managed to tame it to even the standards we where not expecting to in such a short period of time. Am unable to get any faults in the application since the day we ran a test. It has successfully been crunching resumes in a multi-user environment without recording any irregularities in the error logs.

At times like this, I remember how it is written in the bible “sorrows may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning”. For sure, I testify this to be true. The Lord be praised.

Now am about to release version 2.1 Beta that includes some security updates for managing user activity by logging, filtering and granting permissions. Depending on how this version does out there, then we shall be ready to roll out the CV Management System Version 2.1, which will be the initial release. I thank God for getting us through this one, as it has been a thorn in the flesh for all those of us involved. The funny thing is that it is not anywhere near some of the most difficult projects I’ve had but I must say that there has been a little devil working against us and am glad he cant get his dirty hands on what we doing here at sobbayi interactive.
