Ok this time I have found it necessary to lay this beast to rest once and for all. After dealing with the same problem thrice, I figured it’s finally time to write about it, publish and just direct the inquisitive.

Ok am sure at this time you still don’t have any idea of what I am talking about; not to worry however, I am getting there. I have had quite a few brushes with pals giving me a CD with some software to install onto my computer then have the same trusted bunch of code play a fast one on me.

I had installed some application onto my computer, which had been coded by a guy who was quite new in the .NET fad. So this guy, trying to make a stunning impression bundled the whole .NET platform, DataAccess Objects (DAO) and his application into one installer process so as to make install in one quick process.

To add insult to injury he placed no checks before installing any of these technologies. The result is that it installed fine although it took ages to do so. The application worked just as the guy had planned.

So since all was working well, one would wonder what the problem is here. Well to say the least, the uninstall process did the complete opposite. It got rid of the entire file it had previously installed and caused the whole OS to crush. At least that was the case with a windows 2K box that I had. Basically it was a mad disaster.

The point of this article is just to say once, all what I had told the guy. The only thing is that I am sorry it had to take the sacrifice of my computer to get this thing sorted out.

To start with, I will make an attempt to describe what the .NET is all about. It is a technology that was developed by Microsoft and basically it’s a platform that applications run on. An example would be a launch pad for a space shuttle. So considering the launch pad is the equivalent of .NET, which would make the applications that, you write the Space Shuttles.

So basically .NET programming is simply equated to the building of the Space Shuttle then using the launch pad to set it off.

Cool huh?
